World AIDs Day campaign on 1 Dec. at the plaza in front of Yongsan station!

□ The 24th World AIDs Day campaign hosted by Korea Federation for HIV/AIDS Prevention

(KFAP) and sponsored by Ministry of Health and Welfare and Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was held at the plaza in front of Yongsan station on 1 Dec. (14:00~16:00).

○ This outdoor campaign, marking the 24th World AIDs Day, under the theme of “Get a right understanding about HIV/AIDs” was held to provide information about HIV/AIDs through various programs with participation of the public for prevention of the disease and elimination of prejudice and discrimination against those infected with HIV/AIDs.

○ Around 70 people participated including KCDC Director Jun, Byung Yool, KFAP Director Kim, Min Gi, Korean Alliance to Defeat AIDs (KADA) Director Kim, Cheol Soo and Head of Public Health Department of the Salvation Army Korea Territory Shin, Jin Gyun in the campaign, leading the efforts to rid the public of misunderstanding of the disease and alleviate discrimination against those living with HIV infection.

□ As the main event, 773 red ribbons representing 773 people with HIV infection confirmed as of Dec. 2010 were hung on a large tree of hope, wishing those infected happiness and hope.

○ Other programs included a event of taking the condoms attached to the condom-mosaic wall in the shape of the letters of AIDs off the wall, a Polaroid photo shoot event with a character for the HIV prevention campaign called “Conman,” an exhibition of printed advertisements awarded at the HIV prevention ad competition for college students, and an OX quiz game, etc.

○ Souvenir items such as portable heaters (hot packs), canned coffees, and large handkerchief, etc were distributed among the public.
