In the meantime, the National Pension Service allows foreigners to pay pension insurance premiums in their own countries only, freeing them from the burden of having to pay the premiums redundantly both in their own countries and in Korea through the Social Security Agreement with the concerned countries. It also enables foreign subscribers to secure their right as beneficiary for the pension by combining the period of pension premium payment made in their own countries and the period of premium payment made in Korea.

As the Social Security Agreement between Korea and India came into effect in Nov., the number of countries that Korea has concluded the agreement with has increased to 24, making the nation equal to US in terms of the number of the social security agreement partner countries.

* No. of countries with which the social security agreement was reached by other nations: US 24, Japan 12, Philippines 9, India 5 and China 2

The National Pension Service is preparing to implement the Social Security Agreement that it has reached with the Philippines and Spain, and is planning the reach the agreement with Norway and Quebec, Canada, etc. It will continuously reach out to more countries for the Social Security Agreement.
