-       Free discussions and easy explanations on new health technology assessments will be offered -

Three rounds of a “Concept Concert” will be held for the successful hosting of the five-day Health Technology Assessment International Annual Meeting (HTAi hereafter) beginning on June 15th, 2013.

<Concert schedule>

1st round: November 27th (Tue.) at the auditorium of the Korean Dental Association (5th floor)

2nd round: December 5th (Wed.) at Lee Kun-hee Hall of the Seoul National University Cancer Research Institute

3rd round: December 14th (Fri.) at Jema Hall of the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (Daejeon)

These concerts are planned to offer easy explanations on the new health technology assessment system, and help people from related industries, academia, and medical staff understand the system with free discussions.

* The system is designed to assess the safety and validity of health technologies based on objective evidence and discussion results by experts to protect the security and health, as well as help develop new health technologies (the system was introduced in Korea in 2007, and other advanced countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Taiwan have also been operating this system).

They will also provide information on next year’s meeting, and encourage this year's participants to attend.

The conference is an annual international gathering that has been held since 2003 in a rotational cycle between continents (Europe, America, and Asia), and next year’s meeting will be held in Seoul, the 2nd host in Asia following Singapore.

With the theme “Evidence, Value, and Decision making: Science of Art?,” next year’s meeting will help experts exchange the latest information on health technology assessments, and seek international cooperation as well as introduce Korea’s home-developed new health technologies to participants from all over the world.

- Over 1,000 people, including government officials, representatives from related organizations and industries, and academic figures are scheduled to take part in the conference.

As of now, registration for panelist sessions and workshops is being accepted (September 24th to November 30th), and registration for oral presentations and a poster session will begin next month (December 3rd, 2012 to January 15th, 2013).

The Ministry of Health and Welfare expects that the HTAi, with world-renowned experts attending, will help raise awareness on Korea’s health technologies, and elevate Korea’s international status regarding health technology assessments, and plans to publicize the hosting through the concerts.
