S.Korea’s first domestically developed COVID-19 vaccine started its shipment

The Ministry of Health and Welfare(MOHW) announced that celebration for the first domestically developed COVID-19 vaccine(SKYCovione)’s first shipment has started at SKbioscience L House(Andong city, Gyeongsangbuk-do) on September 2(Fri.) 3pm.
The Prime Minister, 2nd Vice Minister of MOHW, Vice Chairman of SK discovery, President of SKbioscience, Congresswoman and Congressmen, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Mayor of Andong city, and officers from MOHW, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and local governments have attended the event.
SKYCovione, Korea’s first domestically developed vaccine, obtained its marketing approval from MFDS on June 29(Wed.) and lot release approval on August 26(Fri.). Its first shipment was completed on August 30(Tue.)
609,300 doses out of 10 million doses(the total amount of the advance purchase) will be distributed sequentially to the local communities based on the vaccination demand.
The vaccination of SKYCovione is available for the age 18 and older(for the un-vaccinated, for their 1st and 2nd vaccination) from the September 5(Mon.), by visiting public health centers and few consigned medical centers.
The status of the vaccination can be checked by visiting COVID-19 vaccination website(ncv.kdca.go.kr). ‘SKYCovione vaccination center’ information will be found under ‘vaccination status’ from September 5.
SKYCovione vaccination reservation had started from September 1. The vaccination will be started from September 13(Tue.).
Clinical trials for the use of SKYCovione as booster shots are underway. Based on the consideration of the interim result, the administration SKYCovione as booster is expected to take place around September.
The 2nd Vice Minister Lee Ki-il said “The Korean government congratulates the development and shipment of Korea’s first COVID-19 vaccine, which is a significant milestone for vaccine self-sufficiency and health security”
Vice Minister Lee added, “The government has its goal to become a leading country in biohealth, proactively supporting our nation’s biohealth industry based on the ability achieved from COVID-19 pandemic and to be prepared to develop vaccine and treatment in a timely manner when the future pandemic comes.”
