Ventilation and Negative Pressure Equipment Support Plan for Infection-vulnerable Facilities

코로나19 감염취약시설 음압설비 지원방안

PRESS RELEASE

OCT 7, 2022

The Central Disaster Management Headquarters briefed the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the “Ventilation and negative pressure equipment support plan for infection-vulnerable facilities.

The Korean government has already distributed COVID-19 guidelines to infection-vulnerable facilities and those guidelines include ventilating facilities for three times a day (for at least 10 minutes each time), designating a person in charge of performing the ventilation and maximizing outside air intake in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and respiratory infection inside such facilities. Staff working at those facilities have also been trained on the proper way of doing ventilation. Efforts have continued to prevent cluster infections at the infection-vulnerable facilities.

Meanwhile, a study is underway on ventilation equipment standards for nursing hospitals. Guidelines are to be established on the basis of the study findings and a related budget will be secured.

The central government aims to use the balance of the special subsidy distributed to local governments to pay for the installation of negative pressure equipment in the infection-vulnerable facilities, which will help prevent cluster infections and severe infection cases.

To this end, each local government will conduct a survey on demand for negative pressure equipment at public nursing hospitals and other healthcare facilities within its jurisdiction and take immediate steps to support the installation of such equipment wherever it is needed.

The head of Central Disaster Management Headquarters said, "We ask those residents at nursing hospitals to thoroughly follow daily infection prevention rules, and we will continue to work to ensure that those living in the vulnerable facilities stay safe even when COVID-19 and the seasonal influenza outbreaks occur simultaneously.“
