Registration Health providers and facilitators for overseas patients

Aim of Registration of Foreign Patients

The Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) is promoting the registration of overseas patients as specified below according to the amendment of the Medical Service Act. Medical institutes and invitees that wish to invite and treat overseas patients must carefully look over the registration requisites and complete and submit the application and other relevant documents to the KHIDI.

Registration Requisites

According to Article 27-2 of the Medical Service Act, medical institutes and invitees that wish to invite and treat overseas patients must meet the following requisites and complete their registration application.

Medical Institutes
1. At least one medical specialist for each clinical department in which the institute wishes to treat overseas patients. (Departments that are not fully recognized by Article 3 of the 'Regulations on the Training and Authorization of Medical Specialists' are excluded.)
Invitees
1. Must have a guarantee insurance (KRW 100 million or more for more than 1 year)
2. Capital of KRW 100 million
3. Must have an office in Korea
Registration Procedure

Medical institutes and invitees who wish to take part in the 'Inviting Overseas Patients for Treatment Purpose Project' must prepare and submit the following documents to KHIDI (to entrust the registration procedure and project reports according to Article 42 of the Enforcement Decree of the Medical Service Act).

Medical Institutes (Complete registration application as Medical Institute Inviting Overseas Patients)
Documents
1.
Proposal (1 copy, must include: basic information, introduction of institute, goal, key projects, organization structure, etc)
2. 1 Copy of Authorization of Establishment of Medical Institute and/or Proof of Establishment
3. List of medical specialists of clinical departments that the institute wishes to invite overseas patients to and copies of their licenses
    * Dentistry and Oriental Clinics must submit a list of doctors and copies of their licenses
    * Certificate of Employment for enlisted medical specialists
    * Certificate of Business Register (1 copy)
Invitee (Complete registration application as invitee for overseas patients)
Documents
1.
1 Copy of Company Article
2. Documents that can prove the company capital (balance sheet certified by a licensed tax accountant or certified public accountant, etc)
3. Proposal (1 copy, must include: basic information, introduction of institute, goal, key projects, organization structure, number of persons, etc)
4. Document that can prove that the company has bought a guarantee insurance (1 copy of the original document of the guarantee insurance)
5. Documents that prove the ownership of or authorization to use the company office (copy of rental contract, etc)
    * Certificate of Business Register (1 copy)

    • Please write on the envelope whether you are applying as a medical institute of invitee when sending the application via postal mail.
How to Receive Certificate of Registration (within 20 days upon submitting your application)
