BIO KOREA 2023: Innovative Bio-Health Technologies Brought
Together Under One Roof

- Korea’s biggest international healthcare industry convention opened with the theme of “Connected Era, Leaping Towards Next Level.”

- 729 companies from 51 countries joined the convention; up 23% from last year

- The convention featured academic forums, exhibitions, business partnership, and opportunities for information and technology exchange - The aim was to boost the global expansion of the bio-health industry, a national growth engine

 

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Cho, KyooHong) announced that “BIO KOREA 2023” would be held from Wednesday to Friday, May 10- 12, at Hall C of the COEX Convention Center in Seoul.

Marking its 18th year since its launch in 2006, BIO KOREA has been an effective forum to raise the international profile of Korea’s healthcare industry by increasing global awareness of Korea’s bio-pharmaceutical technology and promoting international trade and cross-border exchanges.

Under the theme “Connected Era, Leaping Towards Next Level” the convention held conferences, business partnerships, exhibitions, and investor information sessions (Invest Fair). Over 22,000 people and 729 companies from 51 countries were participated in the event. The number of foreign companies increased to 244, up approximately 23% from a year ago.

In the opening speech, the Second Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Park Minsoo said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has reaffirmed the importance of securing healthcare and medical technology sovereignty for health security and to enhance the competitiveness of the healthcare industry to improve people’s safety and health. The government will make policy changes to build a sustainable healthcare system.”

He continued, “In the era of digital transformation marked by a paradigm shift in the fields of healthcare, medical and care services, Korea, with its preeminent ICT and big data, is well positioned to emerge as a global leader. The government will work on creating an innovative ecosystem of the healthcare industry by increasing R&D investments, developing essential personnel and implementing bold regulatory reforms in order to foster the digital and bio-health industry as a next-generation growth engine and one of Korea’s core strategic industries.”

President Cha, Soondo of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the event organizer, said, “BIO KOREA has grown in tandem with our healthcare industry over the past 18 years and will serve as a catalyst to create a new digital market in Korea by supporting the development of digital healthcare services and innovative products with a global opportunity to showcase our preeminent bio-health technology.”
