The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Cho, KyooHong) and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (President Cha, Soondo) jointly hosted the performance reporting session on “2022 Smart Hospital Leading Model Development and Support Project” at 2p.m. on July 4 (Tuesday) at the Westin Josun Seoul.

The project is consisted of three major categories under the theme of “patient-oriented communication”, including ▲ smart operating rooms (Chungnam National University Hospital consortium), ▲ smart hospitalization environment (Seoul National University Hospital consortium, Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital consortium), and ▲ education for patients and their guardians (Yonsei University Severance Hospital consortium).

The reported results presented at the session by the project-executing organizations showed that the introduction of smart operating rooms reduced the time taken from the arrival of patients in operating area to their placement on an operating table by 8.7%, from 23 minutes to 21 minutes, and the provision of real-time information on the status of the operations to the patients’ guardians increased their satisfaction level by 18%, from 3.45 points to 4.36 points, out of the possible 5 points.

In addition, the time required for hospitalization procedures was cut from 3 minutes 29 seconds to 1 minute 23 seconds, as registration for hospitalization was allowed through a mobile application.

As for the education of mothers with new born infants and their guardians, using paper handouts were switched to a mobile online program, and the percentage of satisfied respondents went up significantly, from 54% to 98%.

Eun Seong-ho, Director General of the Bureau of Advanced Health Technology Policy of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said, “The 2022 Smart Hospital Project aimed to innovate hospital services with the goal of providing patient-centered customized medical services, in areas including surgery, hospitalization, discharge and post-discharge follow-up care. We will continue to provide support to spread meaningful results to other hospitals.” ///
