Private and Public Sectors Make Joint Efforts to Promote Corporate Social Responsibility in the Social Services areas

- “2nd Social Service Policy Forum” held on July 7 -

- Discuss ways to promote social services through Corporate Social Responsibility -

 

 

 

 

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Cho, KyooHong) and Korea Central Public Agency for Social Service (President Cho, Sangmi) held the “2nd Social Service Policy Forum” on “Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Service: with a Focus on Ways to Promote Social Services” at 3 p.m. on July 7 (Friday) at Community House Masil in Jung-gu, Seoul.

 

In Part 1 of the forum, under the theme of “Current Status of Corporate Social Responsibility and Roles of Public and Private Sectors to Promote Social Services”, Professor Han, Dongwoo of Kangnam University proposed that the government create a platform where governments, corporations, and the non-profit sectors can share information on social contribution, certify and provide incentives for corporate social contribution activities, and implement better regulation to stimulate Corporate Social Responsibility.

 

The presentation was followed by a discussion among experts on the government’s role to promote social contribution and the private sector’s role to link social services and Corporate Social Responsibility.

 

In Part 2 of the forum, under the theme of “On Social Service: from the Perspective of Corporations”, officials from B Lab Korea, the Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, and MetLife Foundation made presentations on successful cases of Corporate Social Responsibility in Korea and other countries, which was followed by an active discussion.

 

In attendance at the forum, Kim Hye-jin, Director General of the Bureau of Social Services Policy of MOHW said, “The government will actively find ways to promote Corporate Social Responsibility in the social service area, benchmarking successful cases and policy recommendations discussed at the forum today.”

 

President Cho, Sangmi of the Korea Central Public Agency for Social Service said, “It’s time to connect different parties from different fields to address the problems that local communities deal with, and we will work harder to provide social Services that makes a difference in our daily lives through public-private cooperation.” ///
