ROK and Kenya Discuss Cooperation in Healthcare

- Minister Cho, KyooHong met with the Cabinet Secretary for Health of Kenya -

Minister of Health and Welfare Cho, KyooHong met with Nakhumicha S. Wafula, the Cabinet Secretary for Health of Kenya, on July 24 to discuss cooperation in healthcare between the two countries.

The Kenyan delegation visited Korea to learn about Korea’s national health insurance system including the information system. The meeting agendas included Korea’s national health insurance system and digitization of healthcare which are issues of major interest to the Kenyan delegation. Kenya is actively pursuing digital transformation of its healthcare system with the aim of achieving universal health coverage.

At the meeting, Minister Cho, KyooHong provided an overview of Korea’s national health insurance including eligibility management and claims-review, and explained major healthcare policies currently in place, including digital healthcare. The two sides agreed to seek further cooperation in healthcare, based on the existing MOU.

Cabinet Secretary for Health Nakhumicha S. Wafula said the delegation wants to learn from Korea’s policy and experiences, with an aspiration for continued bilateral cooperation.

In response, Minister Cho said, “I hope this visit and our meeting serve as an opportunity for the Kenyan delegation to gain an in-depth understanding of Korea’s overall healthcare system, including the health insurance system.” He added, “I expect that Korea and Kenya will further expand bilateral cooperation going forward.” ///
