Korea and Denmark Share Policies on the Welfare of the Elderly

- Minister Cho, KyooHong meets with Denmark’s Minister for Senior Citizens-

Minister of Health and Welfare Cho, KyooHong met with Denmark’s Minister for Senior Citizens, Mette Kierkgaard, on September 25 (Monday) to discuss policies on the welfare of the elderly in both countries.

The two sides held a meeting in response to the Danish Ministry’s request to strengthen cooperation with Korea in policy related to the elderly population during Minister Kierkgaard’s visit to Korea.

Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on healthcare cooperation between them in 2013, it has been revised in 2021 to include areas of cooperation such as public health policy, long-term care, and dementia.

Minister Cho, KyooHong introduced Korea’s policies for the elderly, underscoring the aspiration to strengthen cooperation with Denmark based on this. Given that the Memorandum of Understanding on healthcare cooperation between Korea and Denmark also includes elderly care, he noted the valuable prospects of pursuing experience sharing between the two countries in this field.

Minister Kierkgaard introduced Denmark’s policy for the elderly and expressed her hope to strengthen cooperation with Korea in various fields in the future.

Minister Cho, KyooHong responded, “With growing importance of policy formulation across various fields in light of the aging population, I hope the two countries can progress toward a future-oriented cooperative relationship through this opportunity. ///
