Who are households at welfare risk? Households that need help due to economic difficulties, health issues, social isolation, etc.

  • Households in need of support for livelihood due to unemployment, temporary or complete closure of business, etc.
  • Households with housing vulnerability, living in jjokbang (shabby one-rooms), goshiwon (small rooms), and cheap inns
  • Households seeking help due to health-related issues such as serious diseases and disabilities
  • Bereaved families that lost a family member from suicide, etc.
  • One-member households in need of care

A measure has been put in place to identify households at welfare risk to allow community members themselves to seek out socially-isolated neighbors due to drastic changes in the population and family structures.

Our village’s “honorary social welfare officer”
Members of a community such as welfare tongjang (village heads), community social security council members, mailmen, metermen, etc., serve as “honorary social welfare officers” to identify households at risk and in need of help from neighbors, and periodically check on their wellbeing.

Proactive health and welfare services will be reinforced.
A “Proactive Welfare Team” dedicated to ensuring community welfare will be established in eup/myeon/dongs across the nation by increasing the number of welfare public officials who will personally visit struggling community members to hear about their needs and provide welfare services to address such needs.
The system will help identify households in potential crisis by analyzing 27 types of indicators including suspension of power supply/water supply, default on health insurance payment, etc.
