"Policy for Dementia Care as State Responsibility" to be managed directly by the State
- Who is eligible? Patients with dementia and their families
- What is offered?
1. Establishment of dementia care centers at community health centers across the nation
(to provide a one-stop service for dementia-related needs including dementia prevention, examination, consultation, registration management, linked services and support for families of patients)
2. Reduced financial burden on families of dementia patients
(expansion of health insurance coverage for patients with severe dementia, medical examination cost for dementia covered by health insurance)
3. Long-term care insurance benefits provided to patients even with mild stages of dementia
4. Prevention of dementia and fostering of a dementia-friendly social environment

- What is included?
1. Abolition of special medical fees (fees for elective care/treatment) starting from January 2018
2. Lower ceiling on out-of-pocket payments for low-income households
3. Wider support for catastrophic health expenditure (support expanded to cover all diseases)
4. Improved fixed fee system for elderly outpatients (copayment of 30% reduced to 10 to 20%)
