What are ‘childcare coupons’? A government-funded emergency aid program that provides vouchers worth KRW 400,000 per child to households with children aged less than 7 years, to help address challenges caused by the COVID-19 outbreak * Reflected in the supplementary budget for COVID-19 response passed by the National Assembly on Mar 17 (KRW 153.9 billion)

Eligible recipients

Approximately 2 million households housing 2.63 million children who received child benefits at the end of March

Payment method

Paid in the form of e-vouchers, local e-currency (mobile or card), paper vouchers (local community voucher etc.)

Form : Points issued to the government benefits card currently used by the recipients(I-Haengbok Card, Kookmin Haengbok Card)

Use:Businesses in the city/province of the recipient’s residence * With the exception of some businesses such as department stores, large supermarkets, e-commerce websites, adult entertainment establishments, etc.

Application Procedure:Points are issued automatically, in-person application not necessary * Recipients of e-vouchers to be notified separately via text messages, etc.

Those with two or more cards:Issued to the recently used card* * Can be changed at the Bokjiro website or resident support centers (Apr 6-10)

Those without a government benefits card: Apply for a gift card at the Bokjiro website or resident support centers (Apr 6-) * Delivered to the address in the application form at end of April

Form :E-currency issued by local government in the form of a card or app

Use:Businesses in the Si, Gun or Gu of the recipient’s residence

Date of Payment:Dates may vary between local governments

Application Procedure:Online application or in-person application at resident support centers * Application methods and dates of payment may differ between local government, and will be notified to recipients upon application
