TITLE : Medical Officer(Maternal/Newborn Health and Safe Motherhood)

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To strengthen national capacity for formulating appropriate polices and for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the reproductive health programmes to accelerate reduction of the prevailing high rates of maternal, perinatal and infant morbidity and mortality in the african Region.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL :
Undertake situation analysis in Safe Motherhood(SM) and define ways of assuring quality of care at all levels of service delivery; provide technical support to countries, including those States in emergency situations, in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the Reproductive Health(RH) programmes particularly Safe Motherhood(SM) programmes; advocate an inter-sectoral approach for the promotion of safe motherhood and behavioural change; develop partnerships and effective coordination to enhance resource mobilization for Safe Motherhood within the context of reproductive health.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
EDUCATION AND SKILLS :
Recognised Medical degree or Ph.D. in Nursing. Postgraduate degree in obstetrics and gynaecology or midwifery and postgraduate degree in public health, Continuing education in HIV/ADIS and family planning desirable. High technical and managerial competence in Reproductive Health(including HIV/AIDS programmes) at national and international levels in Africa. Experience providing leadership in safe motherhood needs assessment, project development and formulation, as well as in other surveys and research at national and international levels. Ability to make technical decisions relating to implementation of safe motherhood activities. The following would be an asset: ability to adapt and work harmoniously with people of diverse cultural settings and backgrounds; to negotiate and develop partnerships. Computer literacy.
EXPERIENCE :
Extensive experience (at least 10 years\'') post-basic experience in reproductive health services including HIV/AIDS Programmes activities at national and international levels mainly in Africa. Experience in district-level service delivery, and with community service providers desirable.
LANGUAGES :
Very good knowledge of English or French with good working knowledge of the other language. Working knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset.
ANNUAL SALARY(net of fax) :
US$62,014 at single rate and US$ 66,753 with 
primary dependants. POST ADJUSTMENT : 17.1% of the above figures. The percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards.
