OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The mission of V&B Department is to achieve a world in which all people at risk are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases, through work in three major areas: Innovation, Immunization Systems and Accelerated Disease Control. The objectives of the Expanded Programme on Immunization(EPI) are to develop, disseminate and assist countries in the implementation of relevant policies and strategies for maximising the use of vaccines of public health importance, (including newly licensed vaccines) as well as immunization related technologies. This is done through supporting regions and countries in acquiring the necessary skills, competence and infrastructure to implement these policies and strategies and achieve disease control/elimination and eradication objectives.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL :
Manage, V&B\''s EPI Team, including appropriate use of funds and directing development and implementation of work plans. Supervise the work of technical area staff who have the primary responsibility for planning and implementing V&B/EPI work.
Coordinate the team\''s activities with other V&B teams, Regional Offices, International agencies, bilateral donors, and nongovernmental organizations. Assume primary responsibility for oversight of the V&B Director\''s office and other team Managers in the overall management and strategic planning of V&B. Undertake other duties as requested by Director, V&B
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
EDUCATION AND SKILLS :
Medical degree. Postgraduate degree in public health. Extensive knowledge of public health with relevance to immunization policies, strategies in developing and developed countries. Ability to exercise leadership and to work effectively with colleagues at national and international level. Proven ability to plan, execute and supervise. The following would be an asset: planning, organizational and management skills; writing and oral presentation skills.
EXPERIENCE :
Over ten years international experience at country and/or regional level in developing and implementing immunization programmes as well as developing and implementing disease control/elimination and eradication initiative. Extensive experience working in developing countries.
LANGUAGES :
Excellent knowledge of English or French and working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of other WHO official languages would be an asset.
ANNUAL SALARY(net of fax) :
US$68,893 at single rate and US$74,533 with
primary dependants. POST ADJUSTMENT : 26.1% of the above figures. The percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards.
