OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :

In collaboration with Member States, international organizations and other WHOP Programmes, to develop, coordinate and evaluate the region\''s needs for development of health systems. To advise national authorities on the need for and development of health programmes aimed at achieving the optimum level of health in an integrated and equitable fashion. To collaborate with Member States in developing and implementing fellowships and other educational and training programmes. To support policy formulation, technical guidance, programme administration, coordination, monitoring and evaluation with a view to strengthening human resources for health, and contributing to comprehensive and quality health services in the countries of the Region.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL :

Manage, support and evaluate regional and country activities in the area of the Department and to advise the Regional Director on all aspects and activities aimed at the reduction of diseases burden and improvement in the quality of health care available to Member States, Provide technical and operational support to national health authorities, particularly in training and education programmes including fellowships, monitor and evaluate the relevance and effectiveness of activities, and coordinate programmes activities with other UN Agencies and international and national organizations, and across different departments and programmes within the Organization.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

EDUCATION AND SKILLS :

Degree in medicine or other health-related field from a recognized university with postgraduate training in public health. Knowledge of health systems and community health administration. Ability to conduct interviews with fellows from different countries, cultures and disciplines. Knowledge of educational planning and technology for the development of health personnel. Knowledge of policies and procedures regrading fellowships and training institutions.

EXPERIENCE :

Extensive experience in human resources development/medical education or public health administration, and/or planning and organizing health training programmes including experience in international placement. Working experience with WHO and/or other UN agencies would be an asset

LANGUAGES :

Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other WHO official languages would be an asset.

ANNUAL SALARY(net of fax) :

US$62,014 at single rate and US$ 66,753 with 

primary dependants. POST ADJUSTMENT : 19.5% of the above figures. The percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards.
