OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To progpose to decision-makers, health professionals and the public the best strategies for improvisng health and for reducing and monitoring the burden of diseases.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL :
have overall managerial responsibility for the final outcome, as well as for the general planning, monitoring and evaluation of WHO/EURO programmes in the field of Technical Support and Strategic Development. Guide and motivate staff and coordinate, facilitate and supervise the work performed by the units assigned, currently, Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases, Chronic Diseases, Environment and Health Policy and Services, including WHO European Centres for Environment and Health, Health Promotion and Investment for Health, including Alcohol and Durgs, Child Health and Development, Women\''s and Reproductive Health, Mental Health, Food and Nutrition Policy, Tobacco(the number/type of units may vary as and when the overall structure of the Regional Office changes).
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
EDUCATION AND SKILLS :
University degree at highest level in social or medical sciences. Postgraduate university level in the field of Public Health. Degree in management, education or other areas of direct relevance. Excellent management skills applied to health fields and international settings. Sense of leadership and responsibility. Ability to promote effective human relations and motivate and encourage staff of different disciplines and cultures.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to negotiate with Member States and other Organizations. Knowledge of WHO policies and programmes and computer skills.
EXPERIENCE :
Extensive and progressively responsible experience in the Public Health Field with considerable experience in a senior management position. Experience at the international level and in developing countries.
LANGUAGES :
Very good knowledge of English with good working knowledge of French, german or Fussian. knowledge of the other European language would be an asset.
ANNUAL SALARY(net of fax) :
US$68,893 at single rate and US$74,533 with 
primary dependants. POST ADJUSTMENT : 12.2% of the above figures. The percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards.
