Title : Scientist, Vector Control (Post of limited duration for two years from date of recruitment) Grade : P.4 Official station (country) : Cairo (Egypt) Organizational Location/Unit : Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) Division of Communicable Disease Control (DCD) Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Objectives of the programme : To prevent and control malaria in Member States with continuing malaria transmission, assist Member States to eradicate malaria from areas where it is feasible, and prevention of re-introduction to areas where malaria transmission does not occur. RBM is supporting Member States in their efforts to implement the plans of actions for malaria control, based on the Global RBM Strategy, which includes proper case management, early detection and rapid response to epidemics, selective preventive measures, focused research, strengthening health services, partnership building, and resource mobilization. The successful candidate will : Assist the Region and Member States in developing vector control strategies and plans for effective malaria control; promote the use of integrated vector control measures and use of insecticides in a cost-effective way; establish a system for monitoring the susceptibility of malaria vectors to insecticides; monitor the implementation of vector control activities and related research and provide technical cooperation for human resources development. Qualifications Required : Education and Skills : University degree with post graduate degree/qualification in medical entomology and vector control. Excellent knowledge of malaria vector control, knowledge of malaria epidemiology and control, knowledge of other disease vectors, ability to develop plans and programmes, ability to establish research priorities and develop research protocols, knowledge and skills in using computerized information system, demonstrated ability to work in an international environment and with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Experience : Considerable experience and managerial responsibilities in developing, implementation and evaluation of vector control projects with special reference to malaria at national level. Participation in technical projects in vector biology and control, especially malaria vectors. Experience in training and development of training materials in the field of vector control at international level. Experience in training of health personnel and in health education desirable. Languages : Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of Arabic and/or French is an asset. Annual salary (net of tax) : US$ 55 180 at single rate and US$ 59 255 with primary dependants. Post Adjustment: 16.2% of the above figures. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
