Title : Medical Officer or Technical Officer (dependent on qualification) two positions available (posts of limited duration - two years) Grade : P.4 Official station (country) : Geneva (Switzerland) Organizational Location/Unit : Health Technology and Pharmaceuticals (HTP) Vaccines and Biologicals (V&B) Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Objectives of the programme : To eradicate poliomyelitis and reduce morbidity and mortality from diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, yellow fever and measles by providing support to immunization against these diseases and through other interventions. Immunization against other diseases may be added, where applicable. Major emphasis will be placed on polio eradication activities. The successful candidate will : - Work as part of the EPI team to implement policies and strategies concerning immunization against poliomyelitis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, tuberculosis, hepatitus B and yellow fever. Emphasis is placed on the eradication of poliomyelitis. - As part of the Country Support Team for the Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI), provide technical expertise to Regional Offices and Country Offices where appropriate in the development and planning of activities leading to poliomyelitis eradication, the development of effective systems of immunization and surveillance, and the achievement of other EPI target disease reduction in Member States. - Coordinate with other teams and other agencies in the support of EPI and especially polio eradication. - Collaborate in the coordination of collection and publication of EPI disease data. - Assist in EPI programme management as directed. - Carry out other duties for polio eradication and EPI as identified by Coordinator, V&B/EPI; Focal Point, V&B/PEI/Country and Regional Support; and Project Leader, V&B/PEI. Qualifications Required : Education and Skills : Bachelor\''s degree in Medicine, Sciences, or Engineering, with postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in public health. Technical expertise in public health and disease control. Ability to work effectively with colleagues at national and international level. Experience with international organizations and/or nongovernmental organizations would be an asset. Experience : More than eight years\'' experience in public health programmes in the areas of administration, planning, disease control, logistics and immunization, including experience at international level and working with developing countries. This should include at least four years\'' experience in the EPI and/or polio eradication. Extensive experience with poliomyelitis eradication in endemic countries would be an asset. Languages : Excellent knowledge of English or French with a working knowledge of the other language. Annual salary (net of tax) : US$ 55 180 at single rate and US$ 59 255 with primary dependants. Post Adjustment: 19.6% of the above figures. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
