Title : Dental Officer Grade : P.5 Official station (country) : Geneva (Switzerland) Organizational Location/Unit : Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health (NMH) Management of Noncommunicable Diseases (MNC) Oral Health (ORH) Objectives of the programme : To promote a healthy life-course and enhance the quality of life of people with oral diseases through global leadership; to prevent and control noncommunicable diseases; to assist Member States in reducing the toll of morbidity and disability due to noncommunicable diseases; to eliminate avoidable complications of oral diseases through appropriate prevention and early treatment. The Cluster endorses the matrix management approach. Consequently, programmes may contain activities which will follow cross cluster project management approaches and techniques. The successful candidate will : Develop strategies for the prevention of oral diseases; coordinate global policies on oral health promotion with special emphasis on priority behavioural risk factors, including smoking; work closely with other priority programmes in the Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health Cluster, contribute to cross-cluster projects by acting as either team leader or as a team member and coordinate oral health activities conducted by WHO Regional Offices, WHO Collaborating Centres, NGOs and other external partners. Provide expert advice to WHO Member States on strategies for oral health and planning and monitoring of oral care as a component of the national health system. Qualifications Required : Education and Skills : Dental degree from recognized institution with specialization in epidemiology and public health. Extensive knowledge of epidemiology, and oral health and related medical research, including public health and community aspects of health care in developing countries. Ability to work harmoniously with people from different countries. Ability to apply mature judgement and decision-making. Good skill in oral and related general clinical examination procedures. Excellent leadership, project management and performance management skills. Experience : Considerable professional experience in community projects on oral health, with at least five years experience in international health/oral health programmes or research, and work in developing countries related to health/oral health; experience in other fields related to noncommunicable diseases and cross-disciplinary work. Languages : Excellent knowledge of English or French, with a good working knowledge of the other language. Annual salary (net of tax) : US$ 65 176 at single rate and US$ 70 157 with primary dependants. Post Adjustment: 19.6% of the above figures. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
