Title : Medical Officer/Scientist Grade : P.4 Official station (country) : Beijing (China) Organizational Location/Unit : Regional Office for the Western Pacific (WPRO) Office of the Director, Combating Communicable Diseases (DCC) Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Objectives of the programme : To reduce morbidity and mortality from diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, tuberculosis and other vaccine preventable diseases by providing immunization against these diseases. The successful candidate will : Work with the Regional Advisers, WHO staff and national officials in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) at national and provincial level, and strengthening of epidemiological aspects. Qualifications Required : Education and Skills : Degree in medicine or other health science and advanced degree in public health from a recognized university. Sound knowledge in planning, implementation and evaluation of communicable diseases control programmes. Initiative and adaptability to work in developing countries. Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct. Knowledge of WHO programmes and policies would be an advantage. Experience : Considerable experience in development of health programme related to communicable diseases including some international experience in an advisory and/or teaching capacity. Experience in EPI an advantage. Working experience in developing countries highly desirable. Languages : Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English. Working knowledge of French an advantage. Annual salary (net of tax) : US$ 55 180 at single rate and US$ 59 255 with primary dependants. Post Adjustment: 30.5% of the above figures. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
