Title : Librarian Grade : P.3 Official station (country) : Harare (Zimbabwe) Organizational Location/Unit : Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) Division of Health Systems and Services Development (DSD) Objectives of the programme : To provide comprehensive library and information services for AFRO, other WHO staff and Members States in the African region, serving as a regional reference and referral centre for questions relating to the work of WHO. To collaborate with projects, networks and libraries in the region to strengthen information support to the health sector at country level and to offer training possibilities for librarians. To ensure accessibility to the region\''s health information production via the African Index Medicus. To collaborate with other WHO librarians at HQ and Regional Offices to advance a consistant and global programme of activities designed to improve equitable access to health information. The successful candidate will : Provide reliable and appropriate library, research and information services to AFRO staff members and the staff of WHO Representatives Offices in the region, using the latest information technologies. Advise ministries of health in the region in the area of health documentation services infrastructure suitable for their work and offers training for librarians. Actively support and strengthen health information networks in the region such as the Association of Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA) Provide the necessary central infrastructure to compile, and disseminate the African Index Medicus offering training for partners at national level. Collaborate with other WHO librarians on global activities. Qualifications Required : Education and Skills : University qualification in librarianship or in related fields, and a relevant post-graduate qualification; specialization in health librarianship would be an asset. Experience in providing library and information services at national and/or the international level, along with experience in Information Technology; proven writing and communication kills; integrity, tact and discretion in dealing with numerous contacts; ability to work with a variety of cultures in different settings; knowledge of WHO and/or the UN Library/information\''s systems at global, regional and national levels would be an asset. Experience : Extensive relevant experience preferably with responsibilities for library and information services within a large and complex organization; experience in developing countries or within WHO or other national, international or multinational organizations. Languages : Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good working knowledge of the other; knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset. Annual salary (net of tax) : US$ 46 445 at single rate and US$ 49 756 with primary dependants. Post Adjustment: 13.% of the above figures. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
